1985 Evinrude 20 hp lower unit oil leak

1985 Evinrude 20 hp lower unit oil leak
I have a slight leak in the lower unit which I believe is the O-ring seal around prop shaft.This is a through hub exhaust.
I am mechanically inclined but I have never worked on this project.
Is this an easy repair & would I need special tools
Any and all information would be extremely appreciated and helpful

Oil leaking there is common and may well be normal drainage from the exhaust housing !!!---------Lower units are pressure tested to see if there are leaks.---------Any water showing in the gear oil ?

No water in gear oil. I noticed after a very cold winter I had oil on the bottom skeg which indicated a leak which I has never been there before

If you put a lot of fogging oil in before winter that can work its way down and look like a leak.

There are numerous , even countless posts on the subject of leakage from the exhaust housing.-------Some oil goes right through the motor without doing anything and it shows up as a perceived leak.------Many first time owners panic over this !
