"I have a second hand Evinrude

"I have a second hand Evinrude 140 that is not running very well. It starts fine, but under load I can't even get the boat to plane. When I look at the carbs there is fuel spitting out of the idle air bleed orifice (at idle). Not all the carbs are doing it , but three out of four isn't good. The fuel seems to be spitting out at a rate of three squirts per couple of seconds and then there will be a 10 to 15 second space between squirts. I am at wits end and want to turn this engine into an achor, but am hoping for some help

. Also I am fouling plugs at an unhealthy rate."

"What are the compression read

"What are the compression readings of each cylinder? Should be 100+ psi and even on all cylinders.

With thr spark plugs removed, the spark should jump a 7/16" gap with a strong blue lightning like flame.... a real SNAP! Does it? The 7/16" gap is important.

If the two above areas are as they should be, remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetors. Be sure to manually clean the high speed jet that is located in the bottom center portion of the float chamber.

When time permits, visit my eBay store at: http://stores.ebay.com/Evinrude-Johnson-Outboard-Parts-etc?refid=store"

"Thanks, I will give that a tr

"Thanks, I will give that a try. Would replacing the plug wires have any effect on the problem that I am having? It appeared that one of the cylinders wasn't firing initially and had some "bleed" through the wire."
