1985 AQ125B Cylinder Head

Hello all! I just purchased an old Bayliner Capri for my first boat with the Volvo Penta AQ125B. When pulling the head off to replace the head gasket I found that my head was too warped to use. (It's my first engine rebuild or anything more hands on than basic maintenance so bear with me)

When looking for replacements I'm struggling to find the proper cylinder head and can only find stuff for the aq131 or other models. My cylinder head casting is the 1000 531 but the only one I can seem to find is a 1000 398 head. They look the same but I'm reading conflicting information on if they are interchangeable or not. Please let me know what my options are!

If someone could also point me in the direction of useful manuals / ways to find part numbers I would greatly appreciate it. I bought a thermostat that the part number matched exactly (triple checked) and it didn't even come close to fitting. 😅 (this is not a big issue I will sort it out but just an example)

Thank you all for the help!

I'm no Volvo expert but they made LOTS of them. Lots of those 80s vintage Bayliners too. You should be able to find used.
Yours is too warped to be machined? That thing must have gotten way way hot!

Yep unfortunately this engine was clearly beaten on pretty bad. I purchased it a couple weeks ago and the engine ran well in person but quite a few things snuck by me since I'm not the greatest with engine's and don't really know what to look for beyond the basics. 😂

On the bright side however I am enjoying this project so far it's been very fun tearing apart this engine. Sometime this week I'm going to see if I can pull the block and replace the pistons due to some FOD damage as well.

As for the head I'll take a look at some boat scrapyards near me and probably just pull a head off of one instead of trying to locate a head that's already been pulled.
