1985 70hp steering problem.

Hi i have a 1985 70hp evinrude model #e70tlcos with hydrolic steering which seems to have seized up.It was ok the last time i used it which was only 3 weeks ago. Now i cant turn the wheel to the left or right. Haven't had any steering problems before now & no accidents that could have caused this problem.I would appreciate all help in finding out what's causing this please...

Are you sure it is a hydraulic steering system ???----------Is there a reservoir for oil ???-----------Seperate the motor from the steering " cable " and see if the motor turns easily.

Thanks for your quick response Racerone.I now know it's not hydrolic as you suspected & i will disconnect the steering cable tomorrow. If the motor turns easily once disconnected what else should i look for to solve the problem ?

Over the years water can leak into those cables and sit at the bottom of a loop.--------Rusting takes place and the cable gets jammed.---------Some can be taken apart for cleaning / repair.--------Others it means a new cable assembly.
