" I have to press the electric prime to keep the engine from stalling when I am transitioning from mid throttle to full throttle. It leaps into action once fuel is forced in. Runs great at high, OK at idle and stalls just beyond the mid throttle. It stalls at that same position even when I going from high back down to low. "

"Oscar.... The most likely causes of the problem you describe would be either fouled carburetors, in which case they would require cleaning, or the carburetor throttle roller is not making contact when it should with the cam. Look at the metal cam that rides against the carb roller. You will see a scribe mark. When that mark aligns with the exact center of the roller, the carb throttle butterflys should just start to move.

Note that the roller should have a clear (sort of clear) plastic sleeve over a black base. This was a lousy design due to the fact that the clear plastic has a tendency to deteriorate. If that sleeve isn't there or is flaking away, purchase a new roller... otherwise you will never get a proper throttle setting. A make do repair is to carefully wrap a layer of electrical tape around the roller until that layer gets about 1/16" thick.

" Thanks Joe for the info. Carbs and roller are OK. It is still stalling unless I press the elictric primer stalls.

Local mechanic says it is a problem under the flywheel. Stator, timing plate, etc.

During the rebuild the stator was filthy. I also had to remove the flywheel during the breakin period to secure the timing plate to the stator. All screws vibrated loose. My local mechanic told me he loosened them to make it easier for the timing plate to rotate. Some sort of design flaw.

The timing linkages move in stages and are not a smooth constant rotation like the Carbs. Still runs great from mid to high throttle once I get beyond the middle step timing plate position. "

I had the same year motor. What happned to me was that the VRO oil line from the oil connect to the carb cracked. Also the fuel line cracked. Check for these problems.
