1985 60 HP Mercury

We just bought boat and took it out for a test drive....the motor idles fine and also at slow speed but when you give it the gas to open it up it will run fine enough to plane out but once it does the engine looses it's rpm and goes back to idling and will sometimes stall. Any idea what is causing this?

Sounds like fuel starvation. Is the tank vent open?

The tank vent was open when we were testing the boat. All the fuel lines from the gas tank to motor were just recently replaced also.

Sounds like you're not getting fuel. Maybe an air leak before the pump?

What bore of fuel line used? To small and when you give her throttle she starves.3/8th"/10mm

Update on boat issues: After changing all fuel lines, filters, and fuel I still had same problem with engine bogging down at about 2500 RPMs and would not plane out. I took it to mechanic and he cleaned the carbs and such for me. Took it out again and still had same issues...the engine idled fine and ran great at low speed but would bog down at about 2500 RPMs. It ended up being a bad stator! Now I'm ready to do some fishing! Thanks to everyone for your input!
