1985 50hp Force middle shiftrod broken Need HELP

I just bought the 50hp force &

I just bought the 50hp force & found that the "Gear Shift Rod Intermediate" was broken half way down the threads. Of course there is not enough play in the adjustments to make it work. Tried looking the rod up and it's DISCONTINUED. Can anyone help me find a rod for this engine?

I had it happen and I used three tube clamps 2 on the posts top and bottom ont he other side of the nuts. The other interlaced inbetween. The cover will close over it afterwards. Of course you will have to check for rust annually and replace.
