had to replace my fuel line connector so I had to take off my starter it was running fine untill i did this now i have no spark to my plugs any suggestions on what I should try to troubleshoot
Thanks

Hi Dan,
Check the kill circuit,black/yellow stripe.Disconnect the mercury tilt switch. Did you disconnect the battery before removing the starter? Didn't cross the battery wires,I hope?

I checked the ohms to the coil pack and i have plenty of power there the people i bought the boat and motor from replaced the wires and they are no longer color cordinated so im not sure wich wire is the the black with a yellow stripe

Ok Dan,here is a wiring schematic for your motor,I think,1980 on,so the colour coding will be the same. http://www.maxrules.com/oldmercs/Wiring/1966ona/60.jpg . You'll need to trace which wire goes where. So you'll look for the round thing that looks like a condenser and disconnect it. Try it then for spark,if you get spark,it's a faulty mercury tilt switch. The black/yellow stripe is the middle of the five going into the switch box.Disconnect it and see if you have spark, try and not start the motor, you need to choke it to get it to stop.If you have no spark after this, then I'm afraid it's your switch box.
