Engine runs fine at high and low speeds and idle. Will not restart after fishing for 1-2 hrs. (3-4 hrs. later it starts up again with no problem.) Battery is good; put new plugs in. Spins, but doesn't have enough kick. Neighbor thinks it might be the sensor??? Any other ideas?

If your talking about the starter spins without enough kick then clean your battery terminals to shiny bright on both ends and have your battery load tested at auto parts store. Good luck

The starters on these motors are easily damaged by cranking too much.----Perhaps have the starter checked out.------Slow cranking means " no spark from the magneto "

Racerone, the starter appears to be spinning it fast enough to kick it over. How do i check to see if there is a spark from the magneto? It sounds like it is spinning as fast as when it kicks over.

These starters are easy to take apart , inspect and repair.----Would not cost you a penny to test if you have an ohmeter.----I install new brushes all the time at $5.00 a set.

Will, thanks for your reply. I had just cleaned the terminals the way you said the week b-4. I just bought a new battery the same size for my trolling mtr and cleaned the terminals on my other battery. When it wouldn't start i jumped it w/ the new one. They both tested over 13 amps.??????

You can check your spark with an open air spark checker from auto parts store; set it to 7/16ths and the spark should jump that gap and be bright blue. You can also hook a timing light to each of the spark wires and see how strong the spark is. If that engine is not spinning at 250/300 rpms you get a weak/no spark. Good luck

racerone i checked the brushes on the starter last nightw/ an ohm meter, they checked ok. Put it back together turned the key and it started. I am going to run it sat, either on the water or with a set of ears for1/2 hr. I don't have an open air spark checker but i'll have one b-4 i tomorrowdo anything else

racerone checked the spark w/ an spark tester, 7/16'' had a bright blu spark. put on a set of rabbit ears&ran it in the driveway for 25 min, shut it off for 1/2 hr & it started right up again & again .let it sit again & repeated what had happened earlier. maybe fiddeling w/the starter had something to do fixing it for now??????

will i checked the spark w/ a spark tester & at 7/16" it was bright blu i put on a set of rabbit ears & ran it in the driveway for 1/2hr. it started right up. shut it off & let it sit for 1/2hr & it started right up again. i repeated this 3-4 times & each time it started right up. i took the started off & checked the brushes w/ an ohm meter b4 i tried running it & they checked ok. maybe that had something to do w/ it starting right up again??????

The next time you have the starter off pull the amarture out amd sand the commutator with 250/300 grit sandpaper and clean the grooves out then wipe clean with carb cleaner. Brushes may not be able to make real good contact or may have an oily surface.
