1984 Mark Twain 3.7 mercruiser problem

Starter engaged and started motor last year at winterization. After sitting 10 months,starter will not engage just clicks (new battery) after bench testing the starter to find out its good i reinstalled it. Turned the ignition switch a few times and then the ignition cut out and a ground ( black wire smoked) any input,diagram locations would be appreciated.

Slave solenoid probably puked...jump the two big studs on top to see if the starter will crank...if it does replace the solenoid.
