"I have a 1984 Johnson 90hp V4. The tachometer has recently began to act funny, after looking at the wiring on the motor I discovered that if I connect the tach lead to the yellow wire of the stator instead of the yellow/gray wire like the book says the tach works fine. I did notice that the yellow/gray wire also connects to the rectifier and to the VRO pump, I have looked but can not find any info on the wiring related to the pump. Is this malfunctioning tach trying to tell me that I have a VRO problem? Also is there any problem with connecting it to the other side of the stator?
