Long story short I needed new throttle cables, the date on the old ones were original to the motor and I had some mice get into my boat and chew up the outside coating. I ordered new ones and installed them. But now I'm not able to get them to go into the cable retainer even with adjusting the spinning wheel. Where should my timing tree location be pointing? Straight up? Does it matter? I have done all the link and sync steps, made sure everything is dialed with the timing pointer, tdc, idle speed, etc. BUT something is not right. My throttle and shift cable are not working right when trying to connect back into the motor.... When I try and put them on the motor I have to move my throttle/timing advance to get them to work in the cable retainer. They are OEM cables I ordered from Marine Engine and the same length as the previous cables that came off.... I followed the instructions to make sure there is a loop before they go into the motor to prevent any binding. Any input or info on something I missed here? I've attached some photos via this Google photos link to hopefully shed some light on the situation. Thanks for any help!
