Hello all, I'm new to this forum and forums in general. Just bought my first boat, its a 1974 16' Ski Barge with a 1984? Evinrude 40 hp 2-stroke. I'm hoping someone can verify the motor's year model from pics I'm posting. Previous owner and title state that it's a 1984 but my Seloc shop manual schematic for this model show a key switch, but mine is a push button electric start. There is also a schematic for a 1986 and later that seems to match exactly. Is it a 1984 or 1986 or does it even matter that much?
The ID tag on the right side of the transom mount is missing. We determined the model number from breaking down the way the motor is equipped. Also, previous owner said the button on the shift lever was the neutral safety switch and the button on the horizontal surface between the shift lever and the tiller handle was the start button, but the actual wire colors and the schematic indicate that it's just the opposite. Can anyone confirm? See photos for all. Thanks in advance.
