1984 Evinrude 6hp Shift Rod removal

I have removed the lower unit

I have removed the lower unit from the motor with no problem and was wondering if anyone knows how to remove the shift rod from the lower unit.

If it is an 84 it should slide

If it is an 84 it should slide right down.No tinkering to be done.Only the earlier 6hp had to dropped down slightly to diconnect the coupler.
