I replaced the ignition switc

I replaced the ignition switch because that seems to be a common ailment but the motor just turns over without firing. One coil looks like some of the black putty on the back has melted. But wouldnt the motor at least fire even if one or more coils are bad? Where do I go from here?
Any & all help is appreciated. Kip

"Kip.... Best to trouble shoot

"Kip.... Best to trouble shoot from the beginning to avoid wasting money.

Compression.... what are the readings?

Spark... with the plugs removed, the spark should jump a 7/16" gap on all cylinders with a wide strong blue lightning like flame. Does it?

If no spark, disconnect the main RED plug at the engine, then energize the starter solenoid to crank the engine by using a small jumper from the battery terminal of the solenoid to the small 3/8" nut on the solenoid (not the ground nut). If you now have spark, either there is a short in the instrument wiring harness or that new switch is faulty or wired wrong.
