So my 1984 200 black max that ive had for 30 years suddenly wont shift into reverse? I take good care of it or it wouldnt of lasted so long. The wierd thing is it runs like a bat outa hell in forward and goes in neutral fine. I disconnected the shift cables and tried to shift it into reverse manually on the trailer but no go... It made a terrible noise of metal on metal when i first tried to shift into reverse while the engine was running. Changed out the fluid when i got it home and the color looked ok, but had some extra metal on the magnetic plug as would be expected. Is this the kind of stuff that spells the end of my lower unit? the serial # is 6591844 and would anyone know if its fixable would it be a camshift1,2 or a easyshift lower end? Damm i cant even find a real merc manual for it and i assume its a 2.4 lt engine?
