1983 Mercury 50 shift linkage location?

Hi, I'm changing the impeller on my motor, model number 1050623, and I can't seem to find where I would disconnect the linkage for when I slide the lower unit out the bottom. Also, if anyone can point me to a manual on this motor, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Just pull the lower unit off ----There is nothing to disconnect on the shift rod.-----It is a splined joint.
Thanks! That was much easier than an Evinrude, I'm used to having to disconnect shift linkage before removing my Evinrude lower unit.

I'm having problems getting it back in. I have a black cylindrical that's about 3/4 inches long with splines inside, I also have a rubbery piece of close to the same dimensions but tapered a little. Where do these go? I have them on the spline at the end of the shaft. I isually take pics when i remove something, I completely lost track of where they were from. It feels like I'm bottoming out with abouyt an inch to go. I can still see the end of the shift spline on the lower unit
