Hello,

Hope you are all OK and having a good time.

Just got this 1983 wellcraft with 5.7L merc 260 and mercarb 2bbl; starts and runs OK when cold but stalls at idle when warm, seems to be flooding as it will only restart when throttle wide open. There is a clear hose that runs to what looks like a vent fitting on top of the carb. There is pressurized fuel coming up thru that hose into the carb. Is that supposed to be so?

If this hose is coming from somewhere on the fuel pump and dumps directly into the throat / venturi, then you need to look very carefully at the situation.---------------Fuel leaks from a marine fuel pump are supposed to go directly into the engine and you may have had the first warning that you need to have this looked at.------------------If you do nothing , then you may want to have a parachute as standard equipment on the boat.

This is your fuel pump part no. 97401A2 Insert the number above in parts search. They have one in stock.

Since I'm new to this forum, you'll have to pardon my lack of knowledge regarding how it works.

racerone - thanks for your concern

guyjg - would you elaborate on your conclusion? is that clear hose supposed to be some sort of vent?

Again, thank you both for your prompt reply,

jc

Yes it is. That is the design of the pump. The diaphragm inside your pump is ruptured. If the pump wasn't sealed and didn't have a vent to the carb then it would dump the fuel into the bilge--boom; you're gone.
