Hello everyone. Newbe here. I have aproblem with my I/O 470 merc. It just quit running. I have to pump the throttle several times,( like 10 to 20 times ), leave it in the wot position until it starts. Pull back to neutral or idle and it runs fine for a couple of minutes then dies. Then I have to start the process all over again. If I catch it in time I can keep the engine running by increases in the throttle.
When I do get it started I can shut it down and it'll start up very quickly and purr like a kitten.

Any help would be greatly apperciated.

Thanks,

carb rebuild. Is the choke opening after warm ? Is it closed when you first crank it ?

You should be able to pump the throttle 2-3 times leave it 1/3 of the way down in neutral and crank the boat should start and run at about 1200-1500 rpm.

When it warms up and you will know it then you should be able to place it in the idle center the throttle and it should idle at 800 rpm no more on the garden hose.

In the water it should on a warm motor in gear idle at 600-700.
