I use my boat every week. I started noticing a slight miss in motor. I change the plugs and wires since they were very old. when I started the motor again with they ears on it ran ok. I put it in gear 1/4 way and my carbs started leaking badly I also noticed black sludge coming out of my prop.Could I have blown some type of seal by putting in gear not in river but with ears on HELP!!!!

" You didn't hurt anything

" You didn't hurt anything by putting it in gear on the ear muffs. 1/4 is about as high as you should run it though. Secondly, don't worry about the black sludge coming through the prop hub. That is unburnt 2-cycle oil/fuel/water emulsion and is perfectly normal for any carbed 2-stroke. Now the carb leaking, I don't know. I assume you mean leaking fuel. If so, you have a somewhat elevated fire risk. I had the sam e problem on my 15 HP Johnson. The problem was there was a hairline crack in the bowl. My advice replace the gaskets and check the bowl for any gouges, gashes, cracks, leaks, etc. what Hp is this engine of yours. This could make a difference. The small ones do not seal on the top, and if you tilt the motor when the carb is full, often, there will be some leakage. Hope this helps. "

Its a sixty hp. My motor is tilted slightly but it is leaking gas from carb really bad. It will only run with full choke on. Can I have messed up my carb gaskets by reving motor to high. What can happen by reving motor out of water???

" You messed up your carb gask

" You messed up your carb gaskets or the bowl for sure, but that didn't happen because you overrevved the motor on the muffs. Buiy the rebuild kit or at least the cap and bowl gasket. I don't know if for yours these are available alone, not in the kit. For mine they are not, but I am told that they are for bigger OMC o/bs. The float also might possibly be out of adhjustment. Really, I'm quite sure you didn't hurt anything with revving it to 1/4 on the muffs. But do get that leak fixed. That's a big fire hazard. "

Either your float has develop

Either your float has developed some pinholes in it or something is keeping your needle and seat from sealing properly.
