Dear forum,
This is my first post, I justregistered but I have been reading for a while.
I am from the Netherlands so I hope you forgiveme for any spelling mistakes.
I really hope you can help meanalyse what could be wrong with my outboard.
I bought an old fiberglass 16ft trihullwith a 35 hp Johnson seahorse.
I believe the Johnson is a 1983model.
It was running bad and not coolingat all but I have a small budget and some time to spend.
As long as it doesn’t ignite, itpumps fine but the second it starts, the water flow stops.
Exhaust gases must be entering thesystem somewhere.
Test set-up is a large barrel withan appropriate water level.
Through the clear water I can seaexhaust gases escaping from the water pump inlet.
When I removed the lower unit andhooked up a garden hose to the water tube it worked fine.
This could mean the problem is inthe lower unit or the higher water pressure of the hose changed the equation.
Can you advise?
I already renewed: (some necessary, some precautionary)
Head gasket
Water cover gasket
Thermostat
Exhaust cover gaskets
Powerhead to lower unit gasket
Crankshaft seal
Both watertube grommets
waterpumpkit
