I have a 1983 Evinrude 70hp 2 stroke that will not start and back fires out the exhaust. It’s got good spark and good fuel. I’ve test the stator, power pack and all three coils everything there is good. I’ve rebuilt the carbs and fuel pump. All three cylinders have 120-125. Kill switches is also good.
What am I missing.

New problem or new to you motor?
Wires from CDI to coils switched around causing firing order error or sheared flywheel key.

You didn't answer my 1st question:

So again I ask; New problem or new to you motor?

Did you buy a non running engine?
Did you clobber something & shear the key?
Did someone do maintenance under the flywheel & fail to torque it correctly.

It was my late grandfathers. Last time it was on the water was 2017-2018. My father and my uncle had so questionable people work on it in the past and never could fingers it out but I figured out after being told to check firing order and found a wiring diagram that I could understand. But it ended up being coil 1 and coil 3 was switched.
