1983 40 hp mercury Timing mark

Can some please tell me where the timing mark location on the block is located on my 1983 40 hp merc? I see a little rectangle on the block above the throttle cable. Is that the right mark? I pulled the flywheel without marking the location of the keyway. Removed the 8 bolts and the hub stayed in place. Dumb move on my part...lol... Any help will be appreciated....
 
Not dumb at all. There should be a spot on the 'wheel that indicates TDC. Rotate the crank to find TDC on # 1 with a Phillips screw driver in the plug hole, then line up the 'wheel with the nearest set of holes and bolt it up.

Fastjeff has the answer; sorry no help regarding a mark on your block; on my '92 Merc 40 4 cyl engine, timing marks are on the flywheel and the aligning mark is on a shroud that covers the flywheel; see pics:
