"1983 150 evinrude, # 2 cylind

"1983 150 evinrude, # 2 cylinder has low compression (60lbs.) the other 5 have 90lbs. compression. The sealing ring on the head gasket on the #1 cylinder is bad. The gasket is busted between the #1 & #2 cylinders. If the sealing ring is broken on the #1 why is the bad? Could I have stuck rings or could the compression on the #1 be going through the broken gasket giving it an ok compression reading? Thanks for any advice."

You could remove the bypass co

You could remove the bypass covers and check for stuck/broken rings. If they are Ok then install a new head gasket.Check and make sure the head is flat.

i don't know all the parts

i don't know all the parts on the engine. What are the bypass covers?

"On the sides of your motor yo

"On the sides of your motor you will find 3 covers, they are held in place with 6 small bolts.Remove the one for the #2 cylinder (nothing will bite or jump at you) and you will be able to see the piston and the rings (cool side of the motor). You can also remove the exhaust covers to inspect the pistons and rings on the hot side of the motor. Both are well worth doing and will cost you some new gaskets. If it is a salt water motor your best bet is to remove the bypass covers first."
