1982ish Mercury 50 hp 2 stroke stator, trigger, timing

I found that I had no spark so I ohmed out the trigger and stator and found a pair of wires from the stator to only be at 68 ohms so I ordered a new stator and a new trigger because the trigger had a wire in bad condition but resistance was within spec. First question is do I need to do anything with timing after replacement? Second is there anything else that the stator may have fried or would another faulty component like the switch box or coil packs fry the stator? Is there a good way to bench test a switch box or coil pack?

..."Is there a good way to bench test a switch box or coil pack?" Other than checking resistance, no.

You'll have to retime since Merc's trigger coils are not consistent--I have two that are off at least 10 degrees with each other. I prefer to use a timing light and remove the carb linkage so I can hold her wide open (about 3 grand).
