1982 Volvo Penta AQ125A no start

I just purchased 9/10 a 1982 Bayliner Capri 1950 (19.5') sterndrive boat with a Volvo Penta AQ125A and 270 outdrive in it... WHen I purchased it, they told me the ignition coil was bad... I bought a new one and installed it after testing to ensure yes, there was no spark getting to the distributor... Now there's spark, plenty of fuel being shot into the carb, yet it won't fire up. Now... when I "inject" some fuel by way of the throttle cable or throttle handle, and crank, I get a spurt/puff of fuel and/or flame into the flame arrestor or straight up if I pull that off... I've replaced the plugs as they were fuel soaked/fouled, I get spark at all 4 plugs... but still, it's not starting. The wires look pretty new. At this point, we're stumped.. Any ideas?
and the ignition coil was replaced with Sierra part number 18-5436
Need to get it running soon so I can winterize.. MN is gonna get real cold, real quick, real soon.

Good thing is you don't have to run it to keep it from freezing.
If your getting puffs of smoke and mis-firing?
The belt has probably slipped?
Check for TDC?

No firing at all... We can check for TDC tomorrow and see.. The puffs of smoke and/or flame is after 3-4 cranks, after jetting fuel in, at the carb.. My brother (the mechanic in the family) doesn't think it's slipped time, but we'll check to be certain..

No spark?(Now there's spark, plenty of fuel being shot into the carb, yet it won't fire up)
I saw that and thought the spark was ok.
Then take the points out and file or replace them along with the condenser.

Ok, let me reduce any confusion..

There's spark.. at each of the spark plug wires at the plug.. If I push fuel in, by pushing the throttle forward a couple of times and then return to neutral, and then crank it, after 3-4 turns of the engine, we get kind of like a backfire through the carb/intake.. Menaing we get a puff of smoke at the flame arrestor, or if we take that off we get a shot of flame... All the while the engine does not start.

Ok, nevermind... Ignition timing (rotor) was off by 180 degrees.. Now she starts and idles at 900 rpm.. Now we need to get the carb settings/mixture and all that right and she'll be ready to go like a scared jackrabbit.
