I was test running my 9.8 in a barrel about an hour ago to test my new impeller and kill switch. I ran it for about 15 minutes to let it get nice and warm to burn off any moisture that may have collected inside. At around the 15 min mark I tested the kill switch, and as my multi meter had already told me, it worked. I went to fire it back up and it ran but then had a small backfire and died. I got it going again but this time it had a squeaking noise coming from the top-end-ish. Its just a small squeak and it seemed to go away with throttle. I pulled the cover off to see if the flywheel was shaking around and hitting things, that wasn't the problem, it wouldn't even bugde from side to side. I couldn't get the sound to repeat itself using the pull starter but I did hear what I think was thr same noise just grabbing the flywheel and spinning it. It sounded like it was coming from the reeds but I couldn't tell. This engine is pretty solid so if a bearing is starting to deteriorate I'd like to catch it now. Anyone have any thoughts? Also, does anyone know what that little rubber seal near the top of the driveshaft is for? Any help is good help. Thanks!
