The electric choke doesn't

The electric choke doesn't activate when I depress the key when starting the motor. I can operate the choke manually and when I do it appears that something is missing on the choke shutter that activates it. Motor serial #6140815

there should be a black plasti

there should be a black plastic rod hooked to the choke butterfly and the other end of the rod goes to a 1 inch long metal plunger going to the choke solenoid. Power must be applied to the plunger to magnify it and energize the choke

"JB, Thanks for the info. With the cover off I can see the black plastic rod you mentioned. What all do I have to remove to get access to the solenoid?"

"the plastic rod comes off wit

"the plastic rod comes off with the carb, remove starter for best access, remove carb. When you pull the carb the rod and plunger falls out of the choke solenoid, maybe someone didn't put it back in the hole.
The choke solenoid I believe is bolted to the front electrical mounting plate, which can be moved out of the way by removing the 2 9/16 stainless bolts on either side of the front plate.
Thats from memory, which could be off.
The solenoid can't be fixed, its just a bundle of wires wraped inside a housing and sealed. My guess is either not togeather correctly or no power to it when the key is pushed, (bad switch)"

"JB, thanks again for the info

"JB, thanks again for the info. I think I'll wait till I get the pontoon out of the water because I've been known to drop things."
