1982 Mercury 18 hp powerhead swap

I'm in the process of looking for a powerhead for my 1982 Mercury 18 hp model# 1018202, serial# 6043500. I was wondering if anybody knew what years are compatible? And I think the 18's and 25's are the same motor but not positive, so if anyone out there could give me a little insight into this it would be appreciated.

Stay away from the mercosil blocks but most other ones fit fine. The 18 and 25 blocks are the same, if you want to convert it to a 25 hp. You will need the carb and exhaust tuner. There are 2 different blocks made the one with the thermostats are later blocks.

Do you happen to know which years work?

Look up the powerhead base gasket for your motor and the year of the new one if they are the same they will work.
