1982 mercury 115 hp

Hello folks, I have a question about my 115 Mercury. I just finished putting a water pump in it and as I took off the lower unit I noticed I had to unplug a small rubber hose about 1/8 inch inside diameter. I didn't have a clue what it's for so I tracked it down and it went inside and was coiled up and did't go to anything. My question is what is it and where should it go. I asked the same question on another forum and didn't get one answer. Somebody please help.

That would be a hose for a speedometer.-------Sort of an antiquated item as modern folks use their phones to tell speed.

That is called the pitot tube. Basically a small diameter vacuum line which should route up through the bottom cowl and extend to your speedometer. Should you choose to install one, to disconnect you push down on the tube, while holding the skeg and then wiggle it off the connection.
