Hello,
im a new guy to this site, i need help please.
I just purchased this 82 merc 7.5 motor and when i put it into a tank
it will produce water out the top hole and then it may stop flowing
for 10 seconds and then start flowing again, is this normal, or
is the water pump going out, the intake is on the very bottom of the motor.

If the water pump is bad is it hard to change ?
And where is the best place to buy the parts for the job,
will the pump come with everything needed to do the job?
Thanks dave 6-17-11

Whenever someone buys a used motor it is almost a must do to install a new impeller.--------------One nut on the bottom ( 1/2 socket ) and one nut near the front ( 9/16" wrench ) and the lower unit drops down.---------A new impeller is usually all you need.-----Impeller will be in stock at any Mercury dealer and about $20.00.

Those motors are famous for having the tell tale hole plug with debris. I drill the plastic piece at the the end of the hole out to prevent that.

If I were to buy a new to me, motor/engine the first thing I do would be to change impeller, lower unit oil and plugs.Don't know why I do the plugs but I do
