1982 Johnson 60 carb jets

I was wondering if anyone knows the factory jet positions for my 82 Johnson 60 carb. I can't find my manual and need to make some adjustments. Any help is appreciated.

The jets are " fixed " ----they are screwed in tight and are calibrated at the factory.----------They are not adjustable.-----------So what is your motor doing / not doing ??

The top carb is flooding. If they're fixed, I guess the floats aren't working properly. I guess I'll rebuild and see how that works? They sat for quite a while, so a rebuild wouldn't be a bad thing anyhow.

With the carburetor body held upside down, the float being viewed from the side, adjust the float so that the free end of the float (the end opposite the hinge pin) is ever so slightly higher (just ever so slightly off level) than the other end. And when viewed from the end, make sure it is not cocked.

A good cleaning is what is needed.

I pulled them off last week and sprayed some good cleaner thru the jets. I was getting cleaner thru the jets and didnt seem to have anything blocking them. The floats seemed to be able to move up and down freely. The motor fires up, runs for about 5 minutes then dies off. Have fresh fuel, oil, and some seafoam in the tank. I thought it could be the bulb or lines so I kept it full while running and it still died off. I can see fuel coming thru the front butterfly as its dying... so I defaulted to flooding. New spark plugs and they're wet with clean fuel after it dies.

Does the primer bulb go hard when you squeeze it , yes or no.---------------Cleaner in a can is no substitute for ----Taking them apart for visual internal inspection / cleaning !!

Great! Thank you for that advice!

The bulb stays pretty firm and full with fuel. I can still squeeze it a little bit, but it seems to be working properly. I pulled the bowls off but didn't take it completely apart when cleaning, so I will give that a shot and scrub it down and keep cleaning. Thank you!

The thing with the jets, especially the high speed jet is that if they were completely clogged, the engine would not start/run... period!

The jets just get clogged, fouled, gummed... somewhat! Just enough so that the fouling actually results in a jet with a smaller passageway that restricts the flow of fuel to a smaller amount. When you open the throttle, the engine requires say (to pick a figure) 8% of fuel..... the clogging/restriction may be allowing only 3% to flow through... not enough to keep the engine running, and the engine hesitates, bogs down, or dies...BUT... regardless you could spray cleaner through them, hence the need to carefully clean them manually with a piece of single strand wire.

Thanks for putting it in simple logical terms. I'll take back to the cleaning.... thank you everyone for the great advice!
