1982 Johnson 35hp water flow problems

Have a 35 hp 1982 Johnson Model #J35ELCND that has a water flow problem. Tried new impeller, no fix.
Problem is at idle/slow speed now water in pee hole, at WOT water flow.
Next try will be new impeller housing (found out how to get shift rod end off by reading another thread on this forum). If new impeller housing and assembly does not fix, what is next?
1: Can there be a blockage in water flow, and if so, how to check/fix?
2: Can thermostat cause this, and if so, where is it located? Can't find it!!

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

One other question:
when looking up at the impeller from the prop side, which way should the impeller look like it is turning. Someone else has said maybe the impeller is loaded backwards.

Thermostat is under the water jacket cover on the cylinderhead.----------There may be an issue with a blown head gasket , so do a compression test.-----------May be an issue with the grommet at the top of the water tube as well.-------You put the impeller on the shaft and then lower the housing on to it while turning the propshaft in the direction of engine rotation.-----That is the best way to make sure it is correct !--------If the pump housing was not obviously worn then a new one will not correct this.------------Hopefully you installed a FACTORY original replacement impeller !!

I got the impeller from an OMC Dealer, hopefully he gave me correct Impeller.
Could the thermostat cause any of this?
By the grommet at top of water tube, could you explain? When The water tube is pulled down, it is just a copper tube. How can you check this up in the housing?

Thanks

The item # 114 (Guide, Water Tube) is not available. The grommet is available. Does the grommet go on top of item 114, or on top of the copper tube? Will the grommet alone do me any good if this is a probelm on my motor?

Thanks

Post the whole story on this motor !---------Did it suffer from severe overheat ?-----------New to you motor ?-----Have you checked thermostat ?---On this site it says they have the guides in stock.

My brother then I have owned this motor since new. It was running fine til last week out on the water. In the morning it was running fine. Around noon started up and was idling out and overheat buzzer went off. Let it cool down and restarted, got up to almost WOT and water flow fine. Slow/idle no water flow. Tried new impeller earlier this week, no fix. Am going to try whole new impeller housing (old one is original and shows some gouging). Just wanted to feel the forum out as to what else the problem could be. Can the thermostat be a cause? Any other ideas?
I looked at the diagram and item 114 is in stock. 2 hours ago, it was not (I think). Can you change these parts from the lower unit end?
Thanks for any help.
PS: I have ordered a service manual for this engine. Hopefully it will be in Monday and will simplify some things for me.

Once more, was the replacement impeller a " factory " replacement part ?--------Or an aftermarket item ?----------Exact answers will lead you to an answer.

I to am having the same issue with a 1980 35hp. Everything was was replace with oem parts. I 'll check this week sometime. Anything else i need to check while i have it apart?
