I just bought evenrude 150 year 1982 compression is equal in all cylinders but its only about 70 psi . Is that to low ,it misses at low rpm but sounds ok when you rev it up . top two plugs are get oily bottom 4 burn clean.Any ideas will be helpful thanks

as far as i have been able to find about compression that is supposed to be ok ,is it running at the correct temp are the thermostats in lace or rmoved bugger of a job to check awkward to get at the v4 expect the 6 is the same

The V-6 has a totally different set-up for thermostats-----Not even close to the V-4 !!-----Try another compression tester !!

Hard to beat the simplicity / durability of an early V-6.----------------TCO = total cost of ownership should be less than most newer motors.----------------Todays motors appear to save money on fuel and then you have to spend all the savings on maintenance / replacement of the motor.

thanks for the advice guys ,allready started the new motor fund. I need more education please could low octane fuel be affecting rough running whats the minimum octane needed to run these old 2strokers do i have to spring for the 93 oct . I also read on a post that evenrude started VRO in 1994 I was told my motor was a 1992 anybody know there no numbers on the motor to ID it I dont even know what model it is. Also is it possible for an oil pump to pump to much oil seems to blow alot of smoke dont know whats normal looking running on ear muffs.is it that simple go switch to pre mix by just blocking off oil line to fuel pump and disconnect warning buzzer. Thanks again guys this forum is great, luv the drama to when there are some differences of opinions was up all nite reading battles of wit. I now know what a shade tree mechanic is LOL

Evinrude / Johnson started with VRO in 1984 ---------So the 1994 is as usual -----" totally wrong "----------------Post a picture of your motor , if graphics are original that will help.

My bad on the 1994 I meant to put 84 .Anybody know what octane these old 2strokers need to run is89 ok or do they need 91.also is it possible for oil injecters to pump to much oil and cause excessive smoking . Is changing to premix as easy I read by pluging oil supply hose and disconnect buzzer wiresor does one need a different fuel pump.
