I have a 1982 90HP Evinrude (Model#E90TLCNB ) which has a spark issue. When cranking it will spark what or two times and then stop completely. It is cranking over 250RPMs.
The things I've checked are:
However, I still have the same intermittent spark issue. It will spark a few times and then stop despite it's cranking speed being over 250rpms, etc.
Does anybody know the specific tests for the Voltage regulator and stator coils so I can test them directly?
The things I've checked are:
- I've checked the ignition switch and it is functioning correct.
- I disconnected the black/yellow wire from the ignition switch and noticed that the wire itself had continuity to ground. I disconnected the main red plug on the engine and this continuity to ground went away.
- I worked my way back through the electrical system only to notice that the yellow and red wires coming off the voltage rectifier were extremely hot.
- I put my hand on the rectifier and it was hot.
- I put my hand on the voltage regulator and on top of the flywheel where the stator sits and everything was red hot.
- At this point I figured that something was grounding the electrical system out.
- I tested the Rectifier and found that it was bad as it had continuity in both directions on one of the yellow AC wires. The second yellow AC wire had continuity to ground so I figured this was the issue that was grounding out the system.
- I've now replaced the rectifier and the rectifier, stator, and voltage regulator are not heating up anymore.
However, I still have the same intermittent spark issue. It will spark a few times and then stop despite it's cranking speed being over 250rpms, etc.
Does anybody know the specific tests for the Voltage regulator and stator coils so I can test them directly?
