20180213_164258.jpgLooking for some advice and help pertaning to our 1984 Glastron SSV-151 with an '82 Evinrude 90HP & OMC Throttle Controls.

End of last summer I began having some issues with my throttle. slowly began with my High Throttle becoming progressivly loose and not operating properaly to cold start the boat.

By the end of summer it grew into a problem where after using the high throttle to start the boat, I could not get the boat to return to idal using the high throttle lever. Also when throttling up ( Forward or reverse) the engine wouldnt return to a proper idal when trying to shift back into netural. always reved hight and i would have to pop the hood cowling and manually push the throttle back to the idal position. then would have to split the box and reassemble the plastic linkage part to the high throttle bracket.

I decided to take the throttle controller box apart and have an inspection. Upon opening the box up, 1st thing I noticed was a loose Plastic connecting arm, that connects to the high throttle lever. there is considerable wear on the back side where it joins up up with other pars. this causes the plastic peice that joins the throttle to the high throttle lever to pop out of its track and either bind or not work at all. All the other parts inside the box seem to be in good working order.

I'm assuming this High Throttle Plastic Linkage peice is causing my idal & Cold Start Problems. I'm also having trouble determining what part i'm in need of ordering, Im not sure of the year of this Throttle Control Unit. When talking to the parts people at my local parts supplier they can only offer me parts catalogues to go through. Ive found similar looking control boxes but, they dont show the part im looking for. I've attached a photo of the Control Unit and the part that I feel is causing my throttle issues. any help identifying the OMC throttle Box and the plastic part would be greatly appreciated, I have some other parts to order have it ready by spring and would like to only do one order of parts and get the parts ordered right.

I have also searched the Parts page on this forum and still cant locate the plastic peice I am in need of.

I believe that part is called the " shift lockout "----And clearly listed on this site at $ 28.00-----But I am not sure that part is the problem-----Look a little deeper into your control box.

Thanks for the Reply greatly apprecated. Any guidance and advice is always welcome and appreacted. I have seen that 'Shift Lockout' but in the pictures of the schematics all I see is the base plate?? I dont see the Plastic linkage that connects everything together.... Anyway you can link me to the page your looking at? Possibly Im looking at the wrong year or model?

This is where it connects to the Shift Lockout plate (for lack of better words) the back side of this part is really worn and dosent fit properly in the Shift Lockout track, causing this plastic part to pop out when ever the throttle is moved ( Forward/Reverse or High throttle is engaged)

What seems to be happaning is when I use my throttle lever ( forward/Reverse), its engaging my high throttle cable, and once I try and return the boat to netural its reving high like the high throttle is stuck on..... I then have to pop the hood cowl and push my high throttle lever back to idal.. then split my control box and reconnect my plastic part. sometimes it works good for an hour or so other times it seems to fail right after ive got it reassembed.

I have gone through the Control box ( Teardown, clean and reinstall and I don't see any other peices with noticable signs of wear...... if this part isnt causing the issues, the only other thing I can logicly associate this problem to is my Throttle cables...... but if the throttle cables were stretched would'nt the problem be a constant issue..

To me it seems as if its related to my High Throttle.......

So after dowing some digging around, I have located the part needed! located on some schematics for a [h=1]1998 Evinrude 125 hp SE125WTPLN Outboard Motor[/h]https://www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1998&hp=125&model=SE125WTPLN&manufacturer=Evinrude&section=Remote+Control

How does one determine what OMC unit they have.. I tried looking on this site at the year range for my Boat and motor but the schematics don't ,match up.... is there a way to determine what I have so I can get the right parts ordered up.

Im not exactly sure why I could not find it off the site either.... I used a google search with Marine Engine and my Model Number into the search quary and have found what you were talking about. and yes it is clearly listed once I found the proper section. it did take some digging. I was a bit hesitent to order parts online, and especially from the U.S. as I figured prices would be much higher than a local dealer... well that just was not the case. So I ordered up the below parts and a few extras to do some general maintnace before spring time ( Water pump kit, thermostats & needed gaskets and hardwear & coils.) I messed up my order and forgot to order some Grommets, called them early in the morning and they were more than helpful in fixing my order and adding those grommets to my order saving me an extra shipping fee. Shipping times rival local company shipping within Canada, I received my order 4 days after ordering... They will definitly receive more business from me when I need parts.

At your advice Racerone I did a little close digging through the Control Unit and the Cables. I ended up noticing a few other worn out components inside the control unit that had some wear that I decided to chgange out.
Shift Lever (Was worn where the lockout lever fits into the notch)
Shift Lock-Out Cam ( this was bent)
Lockout Lever (Worn plastic all around)

So hopefully these parts will help fix my High Throttle Problems, and once that is fixed I hope to be able to adjust my throttle cables at the engine to fix the issue I was havingwith not being able to bring the engine back to a proper idal. So with any luck I am hopeful this will cure these issues, and I will be able to move on to conducting some maintnace on the cooling system.
