Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Was on the water, took a few minutes to get start but once started the boat was was running great. No issues at WOT. Ran for like 30minutes and boat just dropped RPM and died. Tried starting again noticed a ton of fuel coming from the motor. Opened the motor and say a hole in the side (see pictures). Obviously motor is blown.

I do do have a couple questions. What could have caused the motor to punch through at that particular spot? What solution could fix it from happening again. What tell tale signs should I have seen before this happened? Is that spot repairable if welded up?

Im really trying to figure out if it's worth rebuilding or if it's just a heap of garbage now.

Thanks!

Find a good used powerhead to replace it or another motor. Those are usually hard to repair and if it can be repaired isn't worth the effort or will be untrustworthy. The hole was probably caused by something coming apart in the motor. Will need to tear it down to determine the exact cause. You also cannot replace just one side of the block because they are a machined set.

.As sergeant shultz say's on" hogans heros"tv show I see nutting, in those pictures, Pinpoint the hole or enlarge picture, did anybody see it?

Look right behind the top throttle stop looks like it has some weird shading there. That's where it looks like it is to me and I will take his word on it.

Sorry if the pictures are not great. I have circled where it broke. About a quarter sized chunk shattered. Thanks for the replies.

It it is possible that I have found another motor but with an extended shaft. What components are similar for certain years? Can a 78 motor basically swap for my 82 etc?

I take it that it would be easiest to just unbolt from the shaft and place on my current shaft rather than try to build up the transom/place a jack plate or something of that sort to fit the motor properly on the back of the boat. The boat is a 2002 bass tracker 175.

The 78 powerhead should be a direct swap. Make sure you swap it as a complete unit carbs, ignition and all.

after closer inspection on the motor that I was going to purchase it is a 75. Is that too a direct swap? The ignition and cools look much different.

Get the model # off of the replacement powerhead to make sure it is a 1978 model. Should be a direct swap you will need to swap as a whole unit.
