1982 50HP Johnson Carb/Linkage issues

Purchased my first boat last summer and have been trying to get it up and going this year. Put fuel stabilizer in over the winter, but I think I forgot to actually run it through so when it wouldn't start up for me this year I took the carb off and cleaned it as well as all the fuel lines with carb cleaner. Where I think I went wrong is when I put it back on I didn't re-assemble the linkage to the choke properly. I can get it started now, but it dies down after about 5-10 seconds because although the choke moves in and out, it isn't properly connected to the carb or at least this is the conclusion I've come to. Included two pics of the manual choke positions. I can get it going and idling if I manually adjust it, but it dies out when I don't.

Very much a rookie here so feel free to give me you know what for taking this on without fully knowing what I was getting myself into. Guess it is a bit harder than taking a part a lawnmower carb apart. Appreciate any help!

*Can't seem to get the pics to load..

sometimes those solenoids are picky about where they are positioned. Try repositioning the solenoid to see if that makes it work.

Fuuny, I had actually been trying that as you replied and it seemed to work. Once I got it started, I manually adjusted the choke and was able to keep it idling for a bit. I let it die out and tried firing it up again with the automatic choke and she fired up and is idling no problem now. I think one of my original problems is that the fuel line is leaking/air is getting in the line and needs new connectors on both ends. Thanks for the reply!
