1982 40 hp merc shifting cables

i just picked up this boat and cables wer unhooked thought i could just bolt them on and go but it seams like there way out of adjustment could some one tell me the factory setting for them or give me a starting point to work from? any help would be great

Put the motor and remote shifter in neutral, then adjust the barrel up or down the cable until it lines up. Do the throttle cable the same way, but use the idle position.
