"Purchasing a 35 hp, 1982 John

"Purchasing a 35 hp, 1982 Johnson motor (J35ELCND)--It started and ran well but I found very brittle wiring which broke and apparently I have hooked something back up wrong after repairing the broken wires because the engine will not stop running when I shut the key off. (It did stop before I messed with the wires). I think the problem is with the proper attachment of the wires to the terminal block on the RH side of the motor. Can anyone help me out on which colors of wires should be connected to which terminals on that block? One clue: I did receive quite a shock with the ignition key off when I was trying to choke the engine down and touched some metal parts!
I have a manual on its way to me but it won't arrive until sometime next week, and so far my searches have gotten me close, but not an exact answer for that terminal block wiring. Thanks."

"Joe,
Thanks much! I will

"Joe,
Thanks much! I will check that tomorrow; however, I do still have a wire (don't remember the color right now) that I don't know where to put on that terminal. Even though that is not the source of my problem, can you describe the correct terminal wiring?
Also, (and this may be answered at your store link that I definitely will visit), I want to replace that wiring harness since it was so full of fragile wires. Is that something I will be able to locate fairly readily?"

"A 1982 harness shouldn't

"A 1982 harness shouldn't present a problem pertaining to locating one. My alarm is set at the moment so I can't get at my books to see if it is still available or not, BUT there should be quite a few goodd used ones available at the various outboard repair shops."
