1982 25hp Choke Settings Help

I just picked up this motor and I'm not sure what the various choke settings are. There seem to be a couple of points where the knob wants to stop like it's meant to be a setting. I think as you turn clockwise there are two. The motor starts without too much trouble and runs decent. I'm wondering if someone could explain the choke and what the proper starting and running settings ought to be. Thanks for any advice. -James

Usually the closed is to help start.1sr click to help jeep it running till it gets warm and then open to run.
Running at any spot other than open can cause excessive fuel use.J

It's not a "choke"--it's an enrichener. It allows fuel to be drawn in around the butterfly, which has to be closed for it to work. (In other words, start the motor at idle.) You are operating it correctly as described. Note that a rod connected to the choke mechanism opens the mag spark advance, including at "half choke" (though only a bit).
