1981 mariner 60hp- wiring harness

I have a 1981 mariner 60hp that came with a lot of electrical work. I believe the previous owner cut off the female 8 pin connection from the motor and rewired it directly into his console. I bought a new throttle box/wire harness with a round male 8 pin connection. Would it be possible to order the female connection and wire it into the motor? Or cut off the new male connection and wire everything together? If anyone has experience doing this, it would much appreciated.
