1981 Johnson 35hp

"Hello, just found this site..

"Hello, just found this site....I'm a 60 year old vet rebuilding an old Terry bassboat. I have a new ignition switch, but no wiring diagram and was wondering what each wire should go to. I'm thinking, purple/white wire is the choke....yellow/red is the starter....red/white is the battery....but I'm kinda lost on the black/yellow, and thinking the solid black is ground. I'm scared to hook up the battery, can anybody help me out? This boat was sunk, for some time, and I'm almost ready to launch her. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ~johnd"

"u prob have 2 "m" terminals on sw....the blk/yell goes on one,the blk,goes on the other., u r right about the others.u should have a blk jumper wire going to box also,from the blk ground wire off of sw."

Thankyou so much for the reply....the jumper wire goes to which box....I am in the console and I may have to run another bl. wire if it goes to the internal[engine]area!

I'm very curious here. That black/yellow wire shouldn't be connected to any other color wire."

"The loom coming from the power pack was in a sleeve from the pp over to the coils....most of the wires had rotted away, and the black/yellow wire was rotted away flush with that wrapped loom......I cut into the wrapping enough to find; a blaclk wire w/yellow stripe.....the new internal harnes had that by wire in a single pin round blue plug...I extracted it and put it into the brown plug in the place the other wire came from....eh voila.....a perfect match

"That looks like a two lever (throttle/shift) control assembly. In which case, the top RED throttle handle portion would be part number 308039, available at any Evinrude/Johnson dealership."

Looks like a good project. I've got a similar Terry hull. It's in speed boat trim instead of Bass boat though. Imagine that hull with it's maximum rated 90hp on it! Nice solid boats though. Have fun with it!

The hull is exactly why I took up the project...I love it...I was told that 40hp was the CGtag recommended max, but I'd love to find an older inline 3cyl...the tall thin one....in 70hp

Does start. likes to cough and die. I have a book coming soon, but I'm anxious. How can I test the stator,power pack & coils ?"

"my father in-law just got this pontoon boat given to him and we got the lights figured out but everything was disconnected and we can't figure out which of the five wires goes which are black, black w/yellow, red w/purple, purple w/white, yellow w/red. we know yellow w/red runs the starter other than that were lost."

I don't have one either, Josh, but there's(was)a guy on here that was pretty smart about that kinda stuff....but I think they all got old overnight, because nobody answers any post anymore! If I was you, I'd type in Johnson 35hp in my browser and start from there!
