"Hi all

"Hi all

My battery has lost a cell (cell no.1 Specific Garvity doesn't go anywhere near fully charged) and while it will hold enough to crank the engine immediately after being charged, it wont hold the charge for more than a day and still reliably start the engine.

The battery I have is oversized (850 CCA) and friends batteries all range between 900 CCA to 500 CCA for similar sized engines.

Any one out there know what the original manufacturer specified for this 140.

There's not many electrical toys in use when the engine is off apart from VHF, occaisional use of the fish finder and the GPS.

Cheers"

"Do you disconnect your batter

"Do you disconnect your battery after you take your boat out and put it on the trailer? If your battery goes dead when its disconnected you have a bad battery. If this is the case then buy a new one. If it stays charged and you can use it again without charging it then you have a problem with your wiring, which is probably going to be harder to find. But look on the bright side you won't have to buy a battery. Hope this helps."

"One 'dead' cell, the battery is toast.
I would have used a 90-110 A/h simple lead/acid battery."

"In agreement with the above. At a bare minimum, if the 90 amp hour isn't available, go no lower than a 70 amp hour battery."

"Thanks Guys
I knew the battery was buggered, cell 1's S.G. was only 1100 when the rest were 1250 - 1275. it was the replacement size I was after.
Once again a heart felt thanks from the southern hemisphere."
