Ok so I made this mistake while half asleep (that's my story) made a bid on a switch box and ignition system for a 1998 9.9 and won it. I know the boxes shape are completely different but as long as the wires match up can it be used on the 1981 9.8? Or would it burn up other items in the system. Just asking here. I picked up the motor for little to nothing but most of the shielding on the wiring is falling off. I have found the switch box brand new from CDI for around $189+/- but that is like 4x what I payed for the motor. I have even though of trying to dig the what I call silicone out of the current box to see if I could solider two new wires in. The two coming out of the bottom are the ones that are bare. The motor does run right now. Any help would be appreciated.
