"I am considering "attempt

"I am considering "attempting" to drop the lower unit and replace the water pump and/or impellar as the engine is not pumping water. Should someone with average skills attempt this? Is there something obvious I should check first? The serial number is illegible on the engine. Other than the cooling function the engine starts easily and runs fine.

thanks in advance,

Ken"

"Are you assuming its not pump

"Are you assuming its not pumping water because there isn't any water flow out of the "pisser".
If so, then remove the hose from the engine, check the hose for blockage and then run a wire around in the fitting that the hose was attached to on the block. Often all is OK, but this passage gets plugged when run in salt water. I've found that when this happens one should plan on flushing out the motor in fresh water with an additive that removes salt deposits in the near future even if all appears to be OK ...and pray for the best."

Thanks for the response. I did

Thanks for the response. I did find a clogged hose that attaches to a nipple on the port side of the engine. I did not however try cleaning out the fitting that it attaches to. I assume that this is the "pisser" and the other end of that hose simply exits the engine cover and discharges water? If so I will try cleaning out the fitting before going any further.
Thanks again for the advice. (I hope the impellar hasn't been destroyed in the diagnostic process.) I did try to keep water from a hose on the water intake while running the engine for short periods of time.
