"hello,ive a 25 hp ,1980 blueband (serial no,5827237).im after seeing if the ignition needs any adjustment as it takes ages to start initially ,am i right in saying it doesnt have breaker points ,if so what can be adjusted...thanks piperdog"

"the merc thunderbolt ign doesn't need adjusting as it ages. Change the plugs yearly, waterpump every 2 years, and keep the fuel/carb clean. Check the compression to determin the condition of the engine, check the base timing with a timing light if you want. There might be minor adj to the linkage that moves the carb butterfly. This is called the "link and sync" in the manual."
