I just bought a 1980 sea Ray Sundance 260 for 2 grand with a no spark issue. The boat has a mercruiser 5.7 liter in it. I have replaced plugs wires cap rotor points and coil. I'm getting 12 volts at the coil but can only get an intermittent weak spark. I've read the post and the manual but got frustrated and quit working on it for the day. Does anyone have any ideas

Ayuh,.... The points have a hot side, 'n a ground side,...

Is the distributor properly grounded, so that the points are, 'n can properly fire,..??

You should be gettin' 'bout 8 volts to the coil, except when crankin' on the starter, which is then 12 volts,...

Did ya properly set the points,..?? Both gap, 'n dwell,..??

I set the gap but then it must have moved when I tightened it up so I checked it again and yep fired right up. Thank you Bondi.
This site and everyone on it is just awesome

Get a dwell meter and set those points properly, might be able to borrow one from auto parts store. Set idle and timing also after dwell.
