"my 80 hp mecrury is acting funny. it accelerates
at 1/4 throttle and 1/2 throttle and at 3/4 full throttle and I can hold it there and it will run all day long no problems. but when I put it full throttle (WOT) it accelerates all the way to full rpm and peaks for two seconds then dies down slowly to idle and if I dont pull off the throttle right along with it when it dies down it cuts off and is hard to start! but when I do pull the throttle back to idle it stays on and after a sec. or two I can accelerate again.
it seem to me like a governor or something?but it has not done this before! help me please
anybody have the same problem

and what prop is suggested for this motor and whats the factory prop ?x?

I want speed , I have a tri hull 17' caravella
it weighs in about 700"

there is no such thing as a go

there is no such thing as a governor.Check your fuel lines ( must be 3/8" ) check fuel pump. Check fuel pick-up in your tank ( strainer ). Perhaps try/ borrow another tank.

"there are governors(i.e.

"there are governors(i.e. chip) on automobiles to limit the speed on the vehicle
"say your running from the cops" when you do 130mph depending on the vehicle the the governor kicks in and limit the speed, even though you may have 150 on the dash you cant do it! sales pitch
well known fact.

back to the problem I have 3/8 line, tank is clean and I have two tanks, and the pump is running strong."

Your outboard does not have a

Your outboard does not have a governor----good luck in your trouble shooting.

"do as Ikia said, try pumping

"do as Ikia said, try pumping the fuel bulb when it starts to act up, this will tell you if it is gas or electrical. It might just be sucking air."

"Dave, If pumping the primer

"Dave, If pumping the primer bulb fixes it, rebuild your fuel pump.

I would think a 17 or 19" pitch prop would be best for that setup.

BTW- that motor doesn't have a voltage regulator or a thermostat. It also doesn't have a governer"

"yes, they dont put governors

"yes, they dont put governors on boat motors
I was using the word as an analogy to
explain the process in which the motor
was malfunctioning.

a 19" pitch and what size diameter 15?"
