Hey all I just bought a 20' with a 3.7 1980. Has no ignition set up. I got the flamethrower coil ad the electronic ignition to go with it. How ever I don't have the rotor button? So I went and got one, 8m6001253, question is can I use that with the electric ignition? And I heard I have to splice wires to install all this? I'm new to all this. Can someone help. Thank you

I thought it was a stock cap but must not be we tried installing it today ad wouldn't fit. Think we got the electronic ignition almost done just gotta wire In the wire to the choke purple wire for the 12v. Could I run it to the battery? Or does it have to be there

Ok I'm reading you don't splice right at the choke? You have follow all the wires back to were they all meet and tap into that. Also seeing I need a red and yellow to tap into starter relay for the initial 12v upon startup?

Re: caps... most parts for a distributor (carbs, starters, alternators, thermostats, as well) for marine applications are "special marine" in order to meed USCG (and insurance company) requirement. While it may cost more, resist the temptation to buy boat parts in your local auto parts store unless you are EXPERT on what parts are the same and which aren't. Drive to your local marine supply store and bite the bullet on $$$$ and stay safe.

follow the directions that came with your pertronix module exactingly, and it will work great, don't and you will have problems, that includes coil power as well
